The Perfect 3 Days in Paros
The Cyclades all-rounder — a picture-perfect fishing harbour, whitewashed marble villages, ancient quarries and golden beaches, without Mykonos or Santorini prices. Here’s a relaxed three-day plan.
Best time to go: May–June or September. Getting around: buses link Parikia and Naoussa well, but a quad or car helps for Lefkes and the quieter beaches. A short ferry reaches Antiparos.
Day 1 — Parikia & the Byzantine heart
Parikia Old Town. The port capital’s whitewashed agora lanes, marble fountains and windmill-dotted seafront. At its heart is Panagia Ekatontapyliani, the fabled “Church of 100 Doors” and one of Greece’s most important early-Byzantine churches.
Frankish Kastro. Climb to the 13th-century Venetian castle built from recycled ancient marble columns above the old town — the ancient temple blocks are set right into the walls.
Dinner. Levantis serves refined modern Greek cooking in an old-town garden; Mario is the classic waterfront choice for grilled fish and Parian seafood.
Day 2 — Naoussa & the marble villages
Naoussa. A postcard fishing village of whitewashed lanes around a half-sunken Venetian kastro and a lively harbour of bobbing boats. Have lunch of meze and ouzo at Barbarossa Ouzeri right on the water.
Lefkes & the Byzantine Route. Drive up to lush Lefkes, the island’s former capital, a maze of marble lanes and bougainvillea. From here the restored marble-paved Byzantine Route to Prodromos is one of the Cyclades’ finest short walks.
Ancient marble. History buffs can detour to the Marathi quarries, whose translucent Parian marble was carved into the Venus de Milo and the Hermes of Praxiteles.
Day 3 — beaches & Antiparos
Beach morning. Swim among the sculpted granite boulders and sandy coves of Kolymbithres across Naoussa bay, or the long golden sand of Santa Maria. Windsurfers head for Golden Beach on the breezy east coast.
Antiparos. Hop the short ferry to this tiny, laid-back neighbour with a chic little chora and quiet beaches. Descend into the dramatic stalactite Antiparos Cave, one of Europe’s oldest-known caves.
Sunset. Back in Naoussa or Parikia, watch the light fade over the harbour with a cocktail before a final seafood dinner.
